Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is now 71% complete. The phase stretches 4.8 kilometres from Sheikh Rashid Road — starting at Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street — to Falcon Interchange on Al Mina Street, targeting the chronic traffic congestion driven by Dubai's rapidly growing population.
Three New Bridges, 19,400 Vehicles Per Hour
The centrepiece of Phase 4 is a trio of bridges spanning a combined 3.1 kilometres, with a total throughput capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour:
- First Bridge — 1,335 metres, running from Sheikh Rashid Road to Falcon Interchange; capacity of 10,800 vehicles per hour. - Second Bridge — 780 metres, linking Falcon Interchange to Al Wasl Road; capacity of 5,400 vehicles per hour. - Third Bridge — 985 metres, connecting Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street; capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.
The broader phase also includes two pedestrian bridges, advanced traffic management systems, and upgraded stormwater drainage and irrigation networks.
Travel Time and Economic Benefits
Once the Al Shindagha Corridor project is fully operational by 2030, journey time through the corridor will drop from the current 104 minutes to just 16 minutes. The RTA projects that this improvement will generate AED 45 billion in economic savings over the next 20 years. Around one million residents in Deira, Bur Dubai, and Dubai Islands stand to benefit directly.
Phase 4: Key Milestones So Far
The RTA recently opened a three-lane bridge linking Sheikh Rashid Road to the Infinity Bridge complex. A second bridge — connecting Al Mina Intersection to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street — is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025.
Among the completed highlights is the Infinity Bridge, a 295-metre structure with six lanes in each direction and a striking 42-metre-high arch shaped like the infinity symbol.
Falcon Interchange
The Falcon Interchange forms a critical node in the project. It comprises two main bridges totalling 1,825 metres, with a combined capacity of 24,000 vehicles per hour. The interchange also incorporates tunnel connections and supporting link structures to improve integration with Al Khaleej Street, Al Ghubaiba Street, and Khalid bin Al Waleed Street.
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project covers 13 kilometres in total across Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street, encompassing 15 intersections across five phases.
