The WETEX 2024 Green Mobility Hall, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 1 to 3 October, offered a comprehensive look at new trends in both personal and public green transport — from battery-electric vehicles to hydrogen fuel systems — as the UAE pushes toward its Net Zero 2050 target.
Green Mobility Takes Centre Stage at WETEX 2024
Organised by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, WETEX supports major national initiatives including the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 initiative.
DEWA's MD and CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, highlighted the event's role in advancing green mobility, noting that the UAE now ranks among the world leaders in EV charging infrastructure — with one of the highest ratios of charging stations to electric vehicles globally.
Local and international companies used the exhibition floor to display efficient practices that reduce operational costs, improve energy utilisation, and accelerate adoption of both battery-electric and hydrogen-electric vehicles.
DEWA's EV Green Charger Programme Tops 700 Stations
One of the headline features was DEWA's EV Green Charger programme, which has grown to include more than 700 charging stations across Dubai. Launched in 2014, the initiative established the region's first public EV charging infrastructure, and DEWA alone operates around 400 of those Green Charging Stations in collaboration with a range of partners.
The expansion underscores Dubai's ambition to make electric mobility convenient and accessible city-wide, supporting the steady uptick in EV adoption among UAE consumers transitioning from petrol and diesel cars.
Hydrogen Fuel Partnership With ENOC Group
Beyond battery-electric solutions, WETEX 2024 spotlighted the DEWA–ENOC Group collaboration that brings hydrogen to the region's fuel mix. Their Service Station of the Future at Expo City Dubai is currently the only station in the region providing green hydrogen alongside conventional hydrocarbon fuels and electric charging — a first-of-its-kind multi-energy hub in the UAE.
DEWA produces green hydrogen at its pilot plant at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with the fuel intended for use in hydrogen-electric vehicles as clean energy adoption scales up across the country.
A Platform for the UAE's Clean Transport Future
As more UAE consumers shift to electric and hybrid vehicles, WETEX 2024 positioned Dubai as a global hub for green automotive innovation. The event supports the National Electric Vehicles Policy alongside the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, reinforcing the emirate's commitment to decarbonising transport well before the middle of the century.
