Abu Dhabi's Census 2023 has confirmed a historic demographic milestone: the emirate's population reached 3,789,860 — an 83% increase since 2011. Conducted entirely from administrative registers, it is the first census of its kind in the UAE and marks a new standard for data-driven governance in the region.

Of the emirate's total population, the Abu Dhabi region accounts for 2,495,925 residents — 66% of the total. Al Ain follows with 1,009,735 people (27%), while Al Dhafra records 284,205 residents, representing 7%. Males make up 67% of the population, with a median age of 33 across the emirate.
Employment Growth Signals a Knowledge Economy Shift
Employment in Abu Dhabi has risen sharply, reaching 2,522,390 — an 82% increase since 2011. The breakdown reveals a structural shift: white-collar workers now represent 46% of the workforce and have grown by 109% since 2011, while blue-collar workers account for 54% with a 65% rise over the same period. This reflects Abu Dhabi's sustained push toward a knowledge-based economy.
Housing and Infrastructure Expansion
Residential and non-residential units have grown by 66% since 2011, reaching a combined total of 754,555 units. Of these, 441,410 are residential and 313,145 are non-residential — underscoring the scale of infrastructure development accompanying population growth.
Government Leadership and the Role of SCAD
The census was conducted under the patronage of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, reflecting the emirate's commitment to using accurate, timely statistics for economic and social planning.
