Kuwait's new embassy in Abu Dhabi was officially inaugurated by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, in the presence of Kuwait's Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al Yahya on Monday. The new embassy building is situated in the Embassies District at Al Ma'arid, a location that reflects the deep and long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Kuwait Embassy Opens in Abu Dhabi's Embassies District
Sheikh Abdullah marked the occasion by unveiling a commemorative plaque alongside Foreign Minister Al Yahya. The ceremony was attended by Jamal Al Ghunaim, Kuwait's Ambassador to the UAE, along with Gulf ambassadors, diplomats, and senior officials from both nations.
Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of the new embassy building as a symbol of strong Emirati-Kuwaiti ties, describing the relationship as built on "solid foundations of mutual respect, understanding and cohesion." He underscored his commitment to deepening cooperation with Kuwait as a fellow member of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Eight MOUs Signed Across Key Sectors
The official ceremony concluded with the signing of eight memoranda of understanding spanning infrastructure, technology, telecommunications, national funds, sport, culture, cyber defence, and defence — reflecting the breadth of bilateral engagement between the two Gulf nations.
The inauguration was held in the context of the fifth session of the UAE-Kuwait Joint Higher Committee, co-chaired by Sheikh Abdullah and Minister Al Yahya, further cementing the institutional framework for ongoing cooperation.
UAE-Kuwait Non-Oil Trade Exceeds $12 Billion
Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the significant growth in bilateral non-oil trade, noting that figures for 2023 exceeded $12 billion — reaching their highest levels in history. He expressed optimism about expanding collaboration further across investment, industry, renewable energy, transport, and infrastructure.
Sheikh Abdullah also reaffirmed the UAE's support for Kuwait's position on the Al Durra Field and the ownership of natural resources in the divided submerged area adjacent to the Saudi-Kuwaiti Divided Zone.
The event concluded with a formal dinner hosted by Sheikh Abdullah in honour of the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, underscoring the warm diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
