Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) has signed lease agreements with Hainan Airlines for four new Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. The DAE Hainan Airlines Boeing 737-8 lease deal reinforces a long-running partnership between the Dubai-based lessor and one of China's major carriers.
Deal Overview: Four Boeing 737 MAX Jets
The agreement covers four factory-new Boeing 737-8 — the current-generation variant of the 737 MAX family — to be integrated into Hainan Airlines' existing fleet in phases across late 2025 and early 2026.
Firoz Tarapore, Chief Executive Officer of DAE, said: "It is a pleasure for DAE to enhance our ties with Hainan Airlines as we continue to experience a trusted cooperation. These new Boeing 737-8 aircraft will enable Hainan's strategic growth plan and operational requirements, and I expect a long and successful cooperation with the airline."
Yu Chaojie, Chief Executive of Hainan Airlines, described the significance of the arrangement: "The introduction of the new aircraft is an important long-term development plan for the company and the enhancement of its fleet. This has been made possible by the support of DAE as we are able to develop efficient operations, manage costs and increase fuel efficiency — a key factor in the current operating environment of airlines."
Fleet Modernisation and Fuel Efficiency
The Boeing 737-8 is powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines and features advanced technology winglets, delivering roughly 20% better fuel efficiency compared to the previous-generation aircraft it replaces. For Hainan Airlines, which operates a broad domestic and international network, reducing the average age of the fleet directly translates into lower maintenance expenditure and reduced carbon emissions per seat.
The addition of these jets aligns with Hainan Airlines' stated goal of maintaining a young, cost-efficient fleet capable of meeting growing demand on both domestic Chinese routes and international corridors.
DAE's Global Scale
DAE currently owns, manages, and is committed to operating approximately 500 aircraft with a total value of around US$18 billion — of which 215 are Boeing models. The company serves more than 170 airline customers across 65 countries and maintains offices in Dubai, Dublin, Amman, Singapore, Miami, New York, and Seattle.
The Boeing 737-8 lease with Hainan Airlines is part of DAE's broader strategy of placing modern, fuel-efficient narrowbodies with growing carriers in Asia and beyond, reinforcing its position as one of the world's leading aircraft leasing firms headquartered in the UAE.
