The Dubai Fountain is one of Dubai's most iconic tourist attractions — and its long-awaited reopening is drawing closer. The world's largest choreographed fountain has been closed since April 19, 2025, for a sweeping renovation, but Burj Lake is now being refilled with water, a strong signal that the landmark could return ahead of developer Emaar's October 1 target date.
What Makes Dubai Fountain Special
The Dubai Fountain sits on a 30-acre Burj Lake, positioned between the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall in the heart of Downtown Dubai. Recognised as the most spectacular water, light, and music fountain on the planet, it previously shot up to 22,000 gallons of water to a height of 140 metres, all choreographed to international and Arabic music hits. For millions of tourists and residents, an evening at Burj Lake without the fountain simply wasn't the same.
Inside the Major Renovation
The scale of the upgrade explains why the fountain needed months offline. Workers drained the entire lake so a new reinforced concrete floor could be laid with waterproofing properties — fixing cracking issues that affected the previous surface. The renovation goes far beyond structural work: the attraction is receiving state-of-the-art robotics, a completely new choreography programme, and an advanced sound and lighting installation designed to deliver performances more impressive than anything seen before.
Signs of an Early Reopening
Recent photographs taken from the Apple Store in Dubai Mall confirm that water is back in the lake — a sign that construction has progressed faster than anticipated. While more testing and fine-tuning lie ahead, the pace of work has raised hopes that the Dubai Fountain reopening could happen well before October 1.
What to Expect When It Returns
The reimagined fountain is set to offer visitors the most advanced entertainment experience in its history. Robotic water motions will add dynamic new movement to the jets, while enhanced lighting technology promises to transform evenings at Burj Lake into a truly next-level spectacle. The show will continue to play out against the backdrop of Downtown Dubai's iconic skyline.
As anticipation builds across the city, the Dubai Fountain is once again set to demonstrate why it remains one of the UAE's most celebrated symbols of engineering innovation and artistic ambition.
