Around 130,000 residents and students in Dubai's Al Mankhool district are set to benefit after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) completed large-scale road improvement works targeting three of the area's most congested streets.
What the RTA Changed in Al Mankhool
The project focused on Kuwait Street, 12A Street and 10C Street — all well-known for heavy daily congestion in the Al Mankhool neighbourhood.
Key changes include:
- The right-in and right-out lanes at the junction of Kuwait Street and 10C Street were reduced from two lanes to one, simplifying traffic movements and cutting conflict points. - A new U-turn lane was added on 10C Street to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents. - The existing U-turn on Kuwait Street was relocated to extend the storage lane, reducing the bottleneck that had long delayed drivers. - Overlapping traffic movement between 10C Street and 12A Street was removed entirely.
30% Drop in Delays at Kuwait Street Junction
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, confirmed the results: the upgrades cut delays by 30% at the junction of Kuwait Street and 12A Street.
"These changes will minimise vehicle queueing and waiting time on the road," Al Banna said. "Less conflict of traffic movement from 10C to 12A will also enhance safety on Kuwait Street."
Al Banna added that the enhancements will facilitate traffic flow and movement throughout and in the vicinity of Al Mankhool, benefiting the roughly 130,000 residents and students who rely on these roads every day.
Part of RTA's Broader Dubai Road Upgrade Drive
The Al Mankhool roadworks are part of the RTA's ongoing programme to improve Dubai's road network across multiple districts. The authority has consistently targeted high-traffic community roads to reduce commute times and improve road safety for residents.
With the Al Mankhool project now complete, drivers using Kuwait Street and the surrounding grid should notice shorter queues and smoother flow during peak hours.
