Sharjah, UAE — HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved a new phase of the Sharjah medical insurance plan, allocating Dh50 million annually to fund treatment for citizens aged between 50 and 55.
5,000 Citizens Gain Access to University Hospital
The new phase will benefit approximately 5,000 Sharjah residents, granting them access to medical care at University Hospital Sharjah. This follows a previous phase that targeted citizens above the age of 55, meaning the programme has now helped more than 9,654 citizens access medical services in total.
Phased Approach Reflects Sheikh Sultan's Healthcare Vision
The successive phases of the Sharjah medical insurance plan reflect Dr. Sheikh Sultan's sustained commitment to expanding healthcare access across broader age groups in the emirate. Each phase has progressively lowered the eligible age threshold, ensuring more citizens receive comprehensive coverage over time.
Next Phase to Cover Citizens Aged 45 to 50
A further expansion is already in planning. The upcoming phase is expected to extend free treatment at University Hospital to citizens aged 45 to 50, with an estimated 8,000 additional beneficiaries set to enrol. This continued rollout underscores the emirate's long-term goal of achieving universal health coverage for all Sharjah citizens.
