DEWA’s Accommodation Complex in Warsan latest building project as reportedly earned the Platinum rating in the international LEED Rating System for Buildings and the rating was issued by the USGBC. This attestation make it the first multifamily project in the world to have achieved this status with 80 points in the LEED Homes v4. 1. This achievement takes the number of building with LEED ratings to ten within the DEWA buildings and points to the commitment of DEWA to cutting down carbon emissions in Dubai and realising the net zero agenda.
The focus is in the implementation of the wise directions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on the building of the dimensions of sustainability as one of the main pillars of the development process and on making Dubai a smart and sustainable city the best city to live in According to the ‘Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033,’ said HE Saeed
As for the savings, the Warsan Accommodation Complex consisting of family and bachelor buildings used 61 percent less water and 28 percent less energy. There is reduced water leakage and the complex produces 10% of the energy it uses through the renewable energy systems it has installed. Furniture procured for use in the complex has obtained FSC certification, while the products incorporated in the fittings and fixtures of the building have low VOC emission, consequently improving the quality of the internal environment of the building.
DEWA have other nine green buildings with LEED rating in addition to Warsan complex, according to Al Tayer. The following are some of the health care facility projects which include; Sustainable Building in Al Quoz, The Innovation Centre of practical technology in Al Quoz, Research and Development Centre and The smart grid station, Moro Hub, Distribution power division Al Ruwayyah complex, Al Rayyan Mosque in Hatta, The Jebel Ali power and desalination complex warehouse and the Building management centre in Al Ruwayyah.
It indicates that DEWA is committed to sustainable development as it also shows its continuous efforts focused on the improvement of individuals and the overall population’s happiness and quality throughout its provision of safe, positive, and healthy environments for its employees and the community at large.
