Kuwait has received the final two Caracal helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, completing a 30-aircraft delivery order that was first signed in August 2016. The milestone closes an eight-year procurement that significantly expands Kuwait's military aviation fleet.
Kuwait Armed Forces and National Guard Split the Fleet
Of the 30 Kuwait Caracal helicopters delivered under the contract, 24 will be operated by the Kuwait Armed Forces and the remaining six are assigned to the Kuwait National Guard. The split allocation reflects the dual role of the aircraft across frontline defence operations and internal security duties.
This addition enriches Kuwait's aviation repertoire, increasing both defence output and national security capabilities across the country.
Airbus H225M Caracal: A Multi-Mission Platform
The Airbus H225M Caracal — also designated the EC725 — is a long-range tactical transport helicopter built for flexibility. It is equipped with a twin-engine configuration, an integrated search radar, forward-looking infrared (FLIR) systems, and comprehensive self-protection suites.
The aircraft can carry up to 28 seated troops alongside a two-person crew, and is fitted for troop transport, combat search and rescue, and casualty evacuation. Kuwait's army helicopters are also fitted with machine guns, enabling them to provide air cover for ground forces when required.
Bolstering Kuwait's Operational Readiness
The acquisition of the complete Caracal fleet is expected to improve the Kuwait Armed Forces' operational readiness. The H225M's combination of advanced technology and multi-role capability makes it one of the most versatile medium-lift military helicopters in service across the Gulf region.
The completed delivery marks the end of a procurement process that began in August 2016, when Kuwait's Ministry of Defence signed the original contract with Airbus Helicopters for all 30 aircraft.
