Doha hosted the first round of Qatar-Canada political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries on Saturday, with senior officials affirming a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and deepening diplomatic cooperation.
First Qatar-Canada Political Consultations Held in Doha
The inaugural session of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and Global Affairs Canada took place in Doha, establishing a formal diplomatic framework for the relationship.
The talks were co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Alexandre Leveque, Advisor and Assistant Deputy Minister for Europe, Arctic, Middle East and Maghreb at Global Affairs Canada.
Strengthening Diplomatic and Bilateral Cooperation
The two senior officials engaged in wide-ranging discussions aimed at identifying concrete prospects for advancing Qatar-Canada relations. Topics covered diplomacy, bilateral cooperation, and areas of shared strategic concern.
The meeting underscored a strong mutual desire to enhance the partnership between Doha and Ottawa across specific and complementary fields.
A Milestone in Qatar-Canada Relations
The talks mark a continuation of efforts by both governments to build closer ties and explore new spheres of collaboration. Establishing a formal political consultations mechanism reflects growing momentum in the relationship, which spans trade, energy, education, and regional diplomacy.
Qatar, as one of the world's largest LNG exporters, and Canada, increasingly focused on energy partnerships and multilateral engagement, have deepening strategic interests in common.
