Dubai Metro’s Blue Line Set to Transform City Transport with New Route

Expected for many years, the construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line project has been approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The project was proposed in 2006 but was not implemented since the credit crunch in world market impacted the bank’s performance. Construction is planned in 2024 with the line going into operations in 2029 in time for the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro.

A new proposed route will cover major locations of Dubai starting from Centrepoint station of Red Line and Creek station of Green Line. The line will start from Centrepoint and proceed through Mirdif, Al Warqa, Dubai International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai International Academic City. On the other hand, the Creek station will continue up to Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor, and join the Dubai International City intersection.

Connecting 30km in total, with 15.5km of them in tunnels, the Blue Line will start the 14 new stations, five of which will be located below the ground. This expansion is proposed for improving access to and from Dubai International Airport and academic premises and districts including Dubai International Academic City by shifting from bus and taxi dependency. The line has said that it would like to expand the number of transportation choices available to the inhabitants of nine new regions, so as to enhance the ways people can get around town.
