The UAE has officially confirmed that Friday, March 20, 2026 is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH.
The announcement came following a meeting of the country's moon-sighting committee, which includes religious scholars, astronomers, and officials tasked with determining the start of Islamic months.
Ramadan Completes 30 Days This Year
Authorities confirmed that Thursday, March 19 will be the 30th and final day of Ramadan, as the crescent moon was not visible on the evening of March 18.
The decision aligns with Islamic tradition, where the start of Shawwal — the month that begins Eid — depends on the sighting of the new moon. The call for moon sighting was earlier issued by the UAE Council for Fatwa, encouraging residents to participate in observing the crescent.
What Eid Al Fitr Represents

Eid Prayers to Be Held in Mosques Only
Authorities confirmed that Eid prayers will take place inside mosques only, rather than in open-air prayer grounds.
This decision was coordinated by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai and relevant authorities across the other emirates, with the aim of ensuring safety and smooth organisation. Worshippers have been advised to arrive early and follow official guidelines.
