Mohammed bin Rashid Pardons 686 Prisoners Ahead of Eid Al Adha
The Mohammed bin Rashid prisoner pardon for Eid Al Adha 2024 was announced on June 13, 2024, days before the Islamic holiday. Sheikh Mohammed issued the order in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, directing Dubai Public Prosecution and Dubai Police to begin the necessary legal procedures for the inmates' immediate release.
What the Attorney General Said
Chancellor of Dubai's Attorney General Essam Issa Al-Humaidan said the pardoning reflects Sheikh Mohammed's commitment to giving inmates a chance to rebuild their lives. "His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's order to pardon the prisoners reflects his keenness to bring happiness to their families and give them an opportunity to start a new life and reintegrate themselves into society," Al-Humaidan said.
Dubai Public Prosecution, in conjunction with Dubai Police, has already initiated the necessary legal steps to enforce the Ruler of Dubai's order.
A Tradition of Mercy at Islamic Holidays
The Dubai prisoner pardon is part of an established tradition by UAE leaders of extending mercy to inmates on the occasion of major Islamic holidays such as Eid Al Adha and Eid Al Fitr. The gesture is aimed at bringing joy to the families of those released and supporting successful reintegration into society.
The pardoned individuals were found guilty of various offenses across Dubai's correctional and punitive institutions, representing multiple nationalities.
