The UAE granted 16,456 Golden Visas to education sector professionals and students, cementing the country's drive to attract and retain academic talent. Announced on UAE Education Day on March 1, 2025, the awards span high school graduates, university alumni, education specialists, and scientists — the broadest single education-focused Golden Visa allocation to date.
Who Received the UAE Golden Visas
The majority of the UAE Golden Visa awards went to high-achieving high school graduates — 10,710 students earned the prestigious long-term residency based on their outstanding academic results. A further 5,246 graduates from accredited UAE universities were also included, with government authorities recognising their performance as meeting the Golden Visa standard.
Beyond domestic graduates, the awards extended to 147 high-achieving graduates from internationally recognised universities and 16 scientists from leading educational fields. Additionally, 337 education specialists were included in acknowledgement of their scholarly contributions to research and academia.
ICP Statement on Academic Excellence
Lieutenant General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), said: "The UAE has long been a pioneer in the education sector, and through initiatives such as the Golden Residency programme, we are reinforcing our commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation."
The statement underscores how the Golden Visa program functions as a retention and attraction tool, not just an immigration benefit. By offering extended residency to outstanding individuals, the UAE removes a key barrier that historically prompted talented graduates to pursue careers abroad.
UAE Golden Visa and the Education Strategy
The Golden Visa program has evolved into a central pillar of the UAE's broader knowledge economy strategy. The education sector allocation sits alongside Golden Visa tracks for entrepreneurs, investors, skilled professionals, and exceptional talents across science, arts, and sports.
Officials have consistently framed the program as essential to building an innovative, knowledge-driven economy. Providing long-term immigration security to select outstanding individuals strengthens UAE academic institutions and supports their long-term growth — making the country a more competitive destination for international students and faculty alike.
The UAE's sustained focus on education quality, combined with long-term residency incentives, positions it as one of the region's most attractive hubs for students and educators seeking stability and opportunity.
