In a landmark update to its long-term residency programme, the United Arab Emirates has unveiled new benefits for Golden Visa holders — marking one of the most significant expansions of privileges since the visa's inception.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP), announced at GITEX Global 2025 that Golden Visa residents will now gain access to UAE consular services when travelling abroad. The move extends privileges previously reserved exclusively for Emirati nationals to the UAE's long-term resident community — a step described by authorities as "the first of its kind" globally.
The announcement aligns with the UAE's 2025 "Year of Community" initiative, themed "Hand in Hand," underscoring the country's commitment to recognising long-term residents as integral members of the national fabric.
What the New UAE Golden Visa Consular Services Include
Golden Visa holders travelling internationally will now receive direct assistance from UAE embassies and consulates during emergencies, lost-passport situations, or travel complications.
Key services in the new package:
- Electronic return document: If a passport is lost or damaged abroad, holders can obtain an emergency return document — valid for one entry into the UAE within seven days — typically issued within 30 minutes of application. - 24/7 emergency hotline: MoFA's round-the-clock call centre (+97124931133) provides immediate assistance for urgent inquiries and crisis situations. - Evacuation and emergency plans: Golden Visa holders are now included in UAE national evacuation plans coordinated through UAE missions during natural disasters or political unrest abroad. - Repatriation and burial support: Consular procedures for repatriation of mortal remains have been streamlined, ensuring efficient coordination between UAE authorities and families of Golden Visa holders who pass away overseas.
Dependent family members of Golden Visa holders are also covered under the new framework.
"Reinforcing the UAE's Position as a Global Talent Hub"
H.E. Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the initiative as a direct reflection of the UAE leadership's vision:
> "Launching this tailored suite of consular services for Golden Visa holders reflects the leadership's vision to reinforce the UAE's standing as one of the world's most competitive nations for global talent. It reflects our appreciation for the diverse individuals who contribute to the nation's success and stability."
H.E. Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, added that the move represents "a qualitative leap in government integration aimed at serving people."
Who Qualifies for the UAE Golden Visa?
The UAE Golden Visa — a 10-year renewable residency permit — was initially introduced for exceptional individuals who had made significant contributions to the country. Eligibility has since expanded substantially.
Today, the Golden Visa is open to:
- Investors and entrepreneurs - Scientists and researchers - Highly skilled professionals in medicine, engineering, and technology - Outstanding students and graduates - Creative talents such as artists and content creators
In Dubai, eligibility has been extended further to include teachers, gaming professionals, and nurses, among others.
A Stronger Safety Net for Long-Term Residents
This policy update strengthens the UAE's reputation as a world-class destination for global talent — not just at home, but wherever Golden Visa holders may travel. By extending consular protection worldwide, the UAE is reinforcing that its long-term residents are valued members of the national community, backed by the same safety net as its own citizens.
