RIYADH: Muslim World League (MWL) Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa met Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency. The high-level encounter underscored the MWL chief's broader diplomatic tour of Greece, during which he engaged political, religious, and community leaders alike.
MWL Chief and Greek PM Discuss Coexistence
During the meeting at the Prime Minister's office, Mitsotakis and Al-Issa exchanged views on several areas of common interest. Al-Issa — who also serves as chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars — highlighted the foundational Islamic tenets of coexistence and comprehensiveness. He expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Greek government and offered positive remarks about the historical contributions of Islamic civilization.
Visits to Muslim Community Leaders in Greece
Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, Dr. Al-Issa met with multiple Muslim religious authorities across Greece, including muftis and imams. He also had the opportunity to visit Athens Mosque, where he expressed his satisfaction with the interfaith dialogues taking place there and praised the mosque's role in the local Muslim community.
Meeting with Archbishop Ieronymos II
A notable moment of Dr. Al-Issa's Athens tour was his meeting with Ieronymos II, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece. Both leaders emphasised the pivotal role of religious figures in addressing diverse forms of conflict — including religious, racial, and civilisational tensions — on the global stage. The dialogue reflected a shared conviction that religious leadership carries a unique responsibility in defusing conflict and building bridges across communities.
The Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, also held talks with several other Greek officials during his visit to Greece.
