Abu Dhabi is positioning itself at the forefront of urban innovation with Aion Sentia, set to become the world's first fully AI-powered cognitive city when construction completes by 2027. The $2.5 billion project, developed under a Build-Operate-Transfer model, will place the UAE capital on the global map as a landmark in smart city technology.
What Is Aion Sentia?
Aion Sentia is a joint venture between Bold Technologies — part of Bold Holding in the UAE — and Italian AI developer My Aion Inc. The partnership aims to transform city living by deploying artificial intelligence that learns and evolves alongside its inhabitants.
"Aion Sentia will turn smart city technology into cognitive technology," said Daniele Marinelli, the company's CEO.
How MAIA Powers the AI City
At the heart of Aion Sentia is MAIA, a first-of-its-kind mobile application that manages the city's interconnected systems. Using generative and cognitive AI, MAIA handles public transport scheduling, energy usage optimization, and resident health support — all through a single platform.
The app builds a Personal Profile for each resident, tracking behavior and preferences to automate daily tasks. From arranging meals to adjusting home heating, MAIA functions as a proactive personal assistant rather than a passive tool.
A Unified Smart City Ecosystem
Unlike conventional smart cities that rely on separate apps and fragmented systems, Aion Sentia consolidates five core domains into one AI-driven ecosystem:
- Mobility — automated transport with dynamic route optimization - Energy — AI load forecasting and renewables integration - Healthcare — predictive monitoring and telemedicine kiosks - Education — personalized learning and AI training programs at UAE universities - Digital Services — unified e-government portal and digital identity framework
Residents will not need multiple applications; MAIA serves as the single interface for all city services.
Global Expansion Plans
Aion Sentia is scheduled to launch in Abu Dhabi before expanding into Europe, the U.S., and Asia. Beyond its technology ambitions, the project is designed to create employment for Emiratis, support local entrepreneurship, and establish AI training programs at UAE universities.
"This is not just a city but a journey toward the next stage of city living," said Thani Al Falasi, CEO of Bold Technologies.
With groundbreaking slated for late 2025 and core infrastructure rollouts beginning in 2026, Abu Dhabi's Aion Sentia AI city is on track to redefine what urban life looks like in the age of artificial intelligence.
