The UAE is positioning itself at the center of global AI regulation, with Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence Omar Sultan Al Olama declaring that the future will belong to countries and companies that embrace AI instead of resisting it. His comments came during the BRIDGE Summit 2025 in Abu Dhabi, in a high-profile session titled “Order and Oversight in a World Run by Code.”
Speaking with international journalist Ali Aslan, Al Olama explained how artificial intelligence is reshaping the media industry, from content creation to business models. He warned that hesitation toward AI is one of the biggest risks today, and highlighted how major players are already restructuring their businesses to survive the AI era.
He pointed to Netflix’s takeover of Warner Brothers as a clear example — proving that AI-driven companies will absorb those that fail to adapt. Comparing today’s shift to the fall of Blockbuster, he said early critics believed streaming was a temporary trend, yet it transformed the entire entertainment landscape.
Al Olama said that the UAE follows a proactive and partnership-driven model, working closely with the private sector to build responsible AI policies. These frameworks aim to ensure safe development, proper use, and efficient oversight of smart technologies that are already transforming society.
He also argued that AI will redefine the skills needed in the workforce, driving a new generation of professionals. With this shift, UAE-based companies are positioned not only to compete globally but also to lead international markets.
Al Olama highlighted opportunities for media and digital content, especially in data analysis and content generation. But he also noted challenges — especially the need to strengthen the human-machine relationship to protect creativity and cultural identity.
