The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has launched Kon Moallim — Arabic for "Become a Teacher" — a first-of-its-kind UAE initiative that brings career changers into the classroom through a fully funded, accredited one-year postgraduate teaching diploma.
The program is open to UAE nationals and expatriates who hold a bachelor's degree in any field and meet the specified age requirements (25 and above). ADEK will fully sponsor the first cohort of 125 participants.
What Is the Kon Moallim Program?
Kon Moallim is designed for professionals from any sector — and parents transitioning from domestic roles — who want to enter the education profession. Unlike traditional teacher training routes, it specifically targets experienced communicators who are passionate about teaching and can adapt to diverse classroom environments.
The program is delivered in partnership with three leading higher education institutions: Abu Dhabi University, Al Ain University, and the Emirates College for Advanced Education, with campuses available in both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
Training and Support
ADEK will fund all 125 places in the inaugural cohort, covering the full cost of the postgraduate diploma. During the programme, participants will develop:
- Classroom management and communication strategies - Leadership and student engagement skills - Innovative teaching methods and educational technology integration - Curriculum design and modern student assessment techniques
The training combines both theoretical grounding and practical classroom experience, preparing graduates for the realities of teaching in Abu Dhabi's charter school network.
Pathway to Teaching
Upon completing the Kon Moallim diploma, graduates will receive priority consideration for teaching roles in charter schools across Abu Dhabi, subject to availability and school requirements. They will enter the classroom equipped to build effective lesson plans, design student-centred learning activities, and implement creative, modern assessment methods.
The initiative reflects ADEK's goal of recruiting motivated educators who bring diverse professional perspectives to Abu Dhabi's classrooms.
