High school students in Dubai aged 16–18 now have the chance to unleash their creativity and make a real impact on the environment with the Green Genius Challenge: Eco-Appliance Edition. Sponsored by the University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE Dubai) and BSH Home Appliances Middle East, the competition challenges students to invent sustainable improvements for everyday home appliances — and win substantial rewards.
What Is the Green Genius Challenge?
The Green Genius Challenge asks participants to reimagine ordinary home appliances — refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, and more — with a sharper focus on energy and water conservation. Entries will be judged on creative thinking, sustainability impact, practical feasibility, and design elegance. No specialist engineering background is required; fresh ideas and clear thinking are what matter.
How to Participate
To enter, create a 2-minute video showcasing your eco-appliance concept. Your video must cover:
- Purpose: How does your innovation conserve energy and/or water? - Features: What makes it sustainable and unique? - Impact: What environmental problem does it solve? - Plan: Is the concept feasible, and how would it be built? - Creativity: What sets it apart from existing appliances?
Alternatively, participants can submit sketches with brief descriptions by email to GreenGeniusChallenge@ue-germany.com.
Nominations are open until 3 January 2025. Winners will be announced on 4 February 2025 during the UAE National Environment Day.
