Netflix is breaking new ground by making its upcoming mobile game Squid Game: Unleashed free for everyone — members and non-members alike — for a limited 14-day window before its official December 17 release. The announcement came during The Game Awards held in Los Angeles, just hours before the launch date was confirmed.
Like all Netflix Games, Squid Game: Unleashed will contain no advertisements and no in-app purchases, keeping the experience distraction-free.
"Squid Game is Netflix's biggest series launch ever," said Alain Tascan, President of Netflix Games. "We're glad to let the whole world join the chaos this holiday season with Unleashed, bringing to life well-known challenges such as Glass Bridge and Red Light Green Light in an intense multiplayer experience."
The game delivers action-packed missions and head-to-head confrontations where players must outlast opponents using techniques drawn from the show's iconic children's games. Functioning as a party royale, it lets players compete with or against friends online.
Squid Game Season 2 Teased at The Game Awards
Fans also got their first look at Squid Game Season 2 during The Game Awards, with its premiere date confirmed as December 26. Pink Guards and a black-suited guard appeared on stage, hinting at what is to come and stoking fan anticipation for the continuation of the series.
Netflix Games Expanding in 2025
Netflix also revealed plans for a new game by legendary developer Yu Suzuki called Steel Paws, set for 2025. The title adds to Netflix's growing catalogue of exclusive games, which already includes GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition and Monument Valley 3, both released on December 10.
