What the Full Moon Weekend Actually Is
The Louvre Abu Dhabi Full Moon Weekend is a recurring event tied to the lunar calendar. The main draw is a guided kayak experience around the museum's famous exterior, operated by Husaak Adventures — one of Abu Dhabi's most trusted outdoor activity providers. Guests paddle around the building on the water for approximately 60 minutes, with professional instructors present throughout. No prior experience is needed.
You get a safety and paddle briefing from the team on arrival, then head out onto the water. Each kayak is equipped with lit dry bags for the night sessions. Life jackets, padded seats, and professional guides are all included, and complimentary water is available at the refill station on-site.
The museum itself is a landmark on its own terms. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning French architect Jean Nouvel, the Louvre Abu Dhabi's centrepiece is its massive dome — which despite weighing 7,000 tons appears to float above the museum. At night, that dome is lit against the sky, and from the water, the whole experience is something you simply cannot get from land.
May 1 Is the Peak Full Moon Night
May 1 is the headline date of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Full Moon Weekend. Two separate sessions are available on this night: 5:30 PM and 9:00 PM. This is when the moon is at its fullest, so the light on the water and against the museum will be at its most dramatic. These are the spots going fastest.
If you want the full experience, May 1 is the night to be there. Both time slots are open, but with a limited number of seats per trip, neither will stay available for long.
May 2 and 3 Sessions
The weekend continues on May 2 and 3, with a single session at 5:30 PM on each day. These dates are a solid option if May 1 is sold out, or if the later time slot doesn't work for your schedule. The experience is suitable for ages six and up, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

How to Get There
Louvre Abu Dhabi sits on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, about an hour from Dubai by car on Sheikh Zayed Road. Parking at the museum is free. Public transportation and taxis are available from Abu Dhabi city centre as well.
For the Full Moon Weekend sessions specifically, online booking in advance is required. Only guests with confirmed bookings can join the trip. Bring your own towel and water bottle.
