Sheikh Zayed Road, one of Dubai's busiest thoroughfares, will be closed to traffic on two November weekends for the Dubai Fitness Challenge events. The first closure falls on Sunday, 10 November for the Dubai Ride cycling event, and the second on Sunday, 24 November for the Dubai Run.
Dubai Ride — November 10
The Dubai Ride is a cycling event open to recreational riders of all abilities. Closures will affect early morning traffic, with participants required to complete their rides by 8:15 AM, after which Sheikh Zayed Road will reopen.
Cyclists can choose from two routes:
- A 4 km family course through Downtown Dubai - A 12 km uphill course along Sheikh Zayed Road
Registration is open to the public, making this a great opportunity to experience one of Dubai's most iconic roads on two wheels.
Dubai Run — November 24
The Dubai Run brings both professional and amateur athletes onto Sheikh Zayed Road for the second closure of the month. Runners can choose between a 5 km route and a 10 km route.
- The 5 km course starts near the Museum of the Future, passes the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Opera, and finishes at Dubai Mall. - The 10 km course also begins near the Museum of the Future, crosses the Dubai Canal Bridge, loops back along Sheikh Zayed Road, and ends near the DIFC Gate.
Start times are 8:00 AM for the 5 km and 7:30 AM for the 10 km, meaning the road closure will extend slightly longer than the Dubai Ride.
Getting Around During the Closures
The Dubai Metro will remain in full operation during both events, providing a reliable alternative for residents and visitors who need to reach areas affected by the Sheikh Zayed Road closure. Commuters are advised to plan journeys in advance and use the Metro where possible.
