Kuwait's Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya held talks with Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei and a delegation of officials from China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) to advance bilateral cooperation and accelerate large-scale infrastructure development. The meeting, held at MOFCOM headquarters in Beijing, focused on deepening Kuwait-China ties ahead of a landmark regional summit.
Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port at the Centre of Talks
The Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port was the most prominent project on the agenda. Both sides exchanged views on developing technical cooperation and economic relations, with particular emphasis on implementing large-scale development projects in Kuwait. Officials discussed strategic joint ventures, with the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port singled out as a flagship initiative that could significantly boost Kuwait's role in regional and global trade.
The discussions also covered directions for expanding Kuwait-China cooperation across multiple sectors, reinforcing the two countries' commitment to bilateral economic development.
Arab Leaders to Gather in Beijing for China-Arab Forum
The meeting took place as several Arab heads of state prepared to travel to Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. Delegations from Egypt, Bahrain, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates were among those expected to participate. Leaders from those countries were scheduled to hold one-on-one talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss bilateral relations and pressing regional issues.
The forum, held on May 30, 2024, brought together representatives from all 22 Arab League member states, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi co-chairing proceedings.
China's Role in Middle East Diplomacy
The forum was expected to strengthen understanding between China and Arab states on a range of issues, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. China has increasingly positioned itself as a constructive partner in the Arab world, expressing support for a two-state solution and calling for internationally backed peace negotiations. President Xi Jinping has consistently advocated for a resolution based on international law and broad multilateral engagement.
