Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has expanded its EV Green Charger network to over 740 charging points across Dubai, as demand for electric vehicles in the emirate continues its rapid rise. Data from October 2024 shows more than 34,970 electric vehicles are now in operation in Dubai — a figure that underscores why the DEWA EV charging network has become critical infrastructure for the city.

A Network Built for Dubai's EV Boom

Drivers can locate any of the 740-plus charging points through DEWA's official website, its smart app, and 14 other digital touchpoints — 16 access channels in total. The network covers a wide range of charging needs, offering ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers to suit different vehicle types and usage patterns.

Since the EV Green Charger initiative launched in 2014, DEWA has supplied approximately 31,674 MWh of electricity to electric vehicles and served more than 16,800 customers through the end of September 2024.

Aligned with UAE's Net-Zero 2050 Target

DEWA MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer framed the expansion as a direct expression of the UAE's commitment to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. "This initiative supports Dubai's vision for sustainable development and clean energy," Al Tayer said, linking the charging infrastructure to the country's broader decarbonisation agenda.

That regulatory vision was formalised with the launch of the Regulatory and Licensing Framework for EV Infrastructure in late 2020 — a policy milestone that opened Dubai's charging market to private operators. DEWA subsequently issued the first Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licences in Dubai to Tesla and UAEV, marking a significant step toward private-sector participation in the emirate's green mobility ecosystem.

What It Means for EV Drivers in Dubai

The growth of the DEWA EV charging network signals a maturing EV market in Dubai. With more than 740 charging points already deployed and independent operators now licensed to build alongside DEWA, drivers can expect continued expansion of charging infrastructure across the city.

For the latest locations and real-time charger availability, DEWA's smart app and official website remain the primary reference points.
