Dubai's oldest waterfront is about to shine in a completely new way.
Dubai Municipality has officially begun work on the Dubai Creek Lights project, an ambitious Dhs80 million initiative that will transform eight kilometres of Dubai Creek into a world-class nighttime destination while preserving the heritage that made the area famous.
Scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027, the project will install more than 5,000 lighting units across promenades, historic districts, traditional souqs, waterfront walkways, building façades, and key entrances along the Creek. The upgrade aims to enhance the visitor experience after sunset while celebrating one of the city's most historically significant locations.
Launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the project reflects the emirate's continued investment in public spaces, tourism, and cultural preservation.
A New Look for Dubai's Historic Heart

Six Historic Areas Will Receive the Upgrade
The project covers six major destinations that collectively represent the historic core of Dubai Creek:
- Al Seef Marina
- Al Shindagha Historic District
- Bur Dubai Souq
- Gold Souq Promenade
- Creek Quay
- Infinity Bridge entrance
These locations connect some of Dubai's oldest trading districts with newer waterfront developments, creating a continuous illuminated route through one of the city's most culturally important areas.
Each destination has its own architectural identity, and the lighting has been tailored to complement the surrounding environment rather than overpower it.

Visible From the Sky
One of the most striking details released by Dubai Municipality is the project's visibility.
Once completed, the lighting installation is expected to be visible from more than 1,500 feet above ground, creating a distinctive nighttime landmark that can be appreciated from both the air and surrounding areas.
Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the lighting system has been designed to emphasise waterfront landscapes, historic buildings, and traditional marketplaces while maintaining pedestrian comfort and safety.
The coordinated lighting scheme is expected to strengthen Dubai Creek's identity as one of the city's signature evening destinations.
