Abu Dhabi-based tech and mobility company K2 officially revealed the THEEB X01 at Make it in the Emirates 2026 in Abu Dhabi, and it is not a concept doing the rounds for attention. The THEEB X01 is a mid-size off-road SUV designed in the UAE and built with Gulf conditions in mind. It targets 550 horsepower, packs 13 driving modes, and is already planned for local assembly. This is the real thing.
What Is the THEEB X01?
The THEEB X01 targets 550hp and 760Nm of torque from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 19.45kWh plug-in hybrid electric system. Ground clearance sits at 235mm, and the X01 offers 13 drive modes, including Sand, Rock, Wade, Crawl, and Tank Turn.
The X01 uses a body-on-frame chassis with solid axles — the kind of setup that serious off-road vehicles need to handle dune crossings and long hauls in extreme heat. This is not a road-biased crossover with off-road graphics. The engineering is proper.
Three Versions, One Identity
Three configurations will be available. The Base introduces the core design, while The Lux adds body-coloured cladding and illuminated door-line strips. The name THEEB itself means "wolf" in Arabic. The brand's logo is a geometric rendering of the Arabic word without diacritical marks — a reference to rasm, the earliest undotted form of the Arabic script. Every detail in the identity has been intentional.
Why This UAE-Made SUV Is a Bigger Deal Than It Looks
Most SUVs sold in the GCC were made for completely different markets and later tweaked for regional conditions. The THEEB X01 starts from the opposite point. K2 Managing Director Sean Teo put it directly: "Many vehicles on our roads today were originally designed for entirely different climates, terrains, and lifestyles before being adapted for this market. With THEEB, we wanted to begin from a different perspective, one shaped around the realities of the Gulf and the people who call it home."
Omar Alqassim, K2's Director of Partnerships and Acquisitions, added: "We made a deliberate decision that this had to be designed in the UAE, not adapted for it. Every element of THEEB starts from how people here actually live, drive, and connect."
At its core, THEEB is founded on what K2 calls a "Built for the Pack" philosophy. In the Gulf, vehicles are typically shared spaces used by families and groups, often over long distances and in challenging environments. This thinking has influenced everything from the SUV's durability and desert capability to its flexible, social-friendly interior.
Assembly, Timeline, and What Comes Next
K2 says the X01 is intended for assembly in Abu Dhabi using a semi-knocked-down (SKD) production approach. Components manufactured externally will be assembled locally. Pricing, confirmed production timelines, and full manufacturing details have not yet been announced.
For a country long associated with luxury imports and high-performance vehicles, THEEB represents a meaningful shift toward localised manufacturing, design, and mobility innovation. K2 is already active in autonomous driving and advanced air mobility, and THEEB sits at the centre of what the company sees as a much wider push into the regional automotive space.
