Dubai has reclaimed its place as the leading city brand in the Middle East and North Africa, and risen to fifth in the world, according to the Brand Finance Global City Index 2024. Scoring 86 out of 100, Dubai ranks behind only London, New York, Paris, and Tokyo — leaving Singapore, Los Angeles, Sydney, San Francisco, and Amsterdam in its wake.
Dubai Leads MENA for the Second Year Running
The 2024 Global City Index, compiled by brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance, surveyed more than 15,000 respondents across 20 countries and rated 100 cities on familiarity, reputation, and consideration. Dubai retained the top spot in the MENA region for the second consecutive year.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, credited the result to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and to the strategic framework of the Dubai Plan 2030. Government-led initiatives and private-sector contributions, he noted, have together accelerated Dubai's rise in global competitiveness while maintaining focus on economic resilience and sustainability.
Top Ranking for Reputation and Investment Appeal
Dubai earned first place globally for Reputation in this year's index — a jump from seventh in 2023 — putting it ahead of Sydney and London. The city also ranked first worldwide for investment desirability and future growth expectations, reflecting its appeal to both residents and international investors.
On employment, Dubai made one of the index's most dramatic improvements: its ranking for work opportunities and flexible working arrangements climbed from 24th to 4th globally.
Trade, Innovation, and Quality of Life
In international trade, Dubai is recognised as one of the world's two strongest economies in terms of logistics connectivity, bridging east and west markets with notable efficiency. Innovation efforts led by the Dubai Future Foundation have further strengthened the city's long-term growth prospects, while a competitive corporate tax environment continues to draw foreign businesses and investors.
Education standards across both public and private schools remain high. Dubai also scores strongly on visa accessibility, global connectivity, and overall quality of life — factors that together underpin its broad appeal as a place to live, work, and invest.
