Emirates and S.L. Benfica have extended their partnership until 2029, locking in what the club calls the longest and most significant shirt sponsorship deal in its history. The renewal continues a relationship that began more than a decade ago and reflects both organisations' shared pursuit of excellence on and off the pitch.
A Decade-Long Partnership Made Historic
The Emirates–Benfica partnership dates to 2014, when the Dubai-based airline became the club's Official Airline Partner. A year later, in 2015, the iconic Emirates branding appeared on Benfica's famous red jerseys for the first time. The new five-season extension carries the updated "Fly Better" slogan — reinforcing the ambition both parties say drives the relationship.
The deal is estimated to be worth around €40 million through 2029, or approximately €8 million per season, making it the most lucrative front-of-shirt sponsorship in Benfica's history.
What the Leaders Said
Boutros Boutros, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications, Marketing, and Brand at Emirates, explained the airline's long-term interest in Portugal:
"Our association with Benfica is a way to enhance fan experience, not just limited to Portugal but around the world. It also shows our long-term interest in Portugal, where the airline has been actively operating for over a decade."
Rui Costa, President of S.L. Benfica, welcomed the renewal with equal enthusiasm:
"It is marvellous to continue the relationship with such a company as Emirates. We are confident and look forward to many terrific moments with a partner that personifies class and excellence. This renewal signifies the kind of success we have always envisioned, and I am sure many more achievements are to follow."
Benfica on the Global Stage
Founded in 1906, S.L. Benfica is one of Portugal's most celebrated football clubs, with a fanbase exceeding 50 million supporters worldwide. The club is a regular participant in the UEFA Champions League and was set to compete in FIFA's Club World Cup in 2025. Benfica's home ground, the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, draws fans from across the globe.
Emirates and Portugal: A Strong Commercial Tie
Emirates currently operates 14 weekly flights between Dubai and Lisbon and has transported more than 2.6 million passengers since it first began serving Portugal. The extended Benfica partnership underscores the airline's broader commitment to deepening trade and tourism links between the UAE and Portugal.
The Emirates Benfica partnership 2029 extension is one of the most significant football sponsorship announcements out of the UAE this year — and a clear signal that both organisations plan to reach even greater heights together.
