Anyone who had already settled their December plans may want to revisit them. Mariah Carey is bringing her Christmastime show to Abu Dhabi, performing at Etihad Arena on Yas Island on Saturday, 12 December.
It is the kind of booking that effectively anchors a month. Carey’s festive catalogue is not simply popular — it is the soundtrack a large part of the world defaults to every December, and hearing it performed live by the artist herself is a different proposition entirely from hearing it over a mall PA.
What she’ll be performing
The show is built around her Christmas repertoire, which means the songs most of the audience will arrive specifically to hear.
Chief among them is All I Want For Christmas Is You, a record that has long since outgrown the category of seasonal hit and become an annual cultural event in its own right. The set is also expected to include Santa Baby and Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), alongside more from her festive catalogue.
Festive dress is encouraged — this is a show where the audience tends to arrive in the spirit of the occasion rather than dressed for an ordinary arena gig.
Tickets and pricing
Tickets are already on sale through the Etihad Arena website, with prices starting at Dhs249.
That entry price is notable. For an artist of Carey’s standing performing her best-known material, Dhs249 sits at the accessible end of the arena-concert range in the UAE — which is likely to intensify demand rather than temper it.
No stranger to the UAE
Carey has a longer history with the Emirates than many visiting headliners.
Her most recent appearance was earlier this year, in February 2026, as part of Saadiyat Nights. That was not her first visit to the capital either: she opened the inaugural Saadiyat Nights concert series in January 2024.
Before that, Dubai hosted her three times — in 2004, 2017 and 2019.
What makes December’s date distinct is the material. Her previous UAE shows drew on her broader catalogue; this one is a dedicated Christmas production, performed in the window the songs were written for.
Why tickets are likely to move quickly
There is precedent worth taking seriously here.
When Carey played Dubai in 2019 as part of the One Year to Go campaign for Expo 2020, tickets sold out in seconds. The demand overwhelmed expectations almost immediately.
Several factors suggest a comparable scramble this time. The Christmas-specific billing narrows the show to a single night with no second date announced. December in the UAE is peak season, with a significantly larger population of residents and visitors in the country than at other points in the year. And a Dhs249 starting price brings in an audience that a higher entry point would have filtered out.
None of which guarantees a sell-out — but anyone treating this as a decision to make in November is taking a calculated risk.
A Christmas gift that books itself
For readers who are not personally invested in the show, there is an obvious secondary angle: it makes an unusually strong gift.
Concert tickets as a present have a particular advantage in that the recipient gets the anticipation as well as the event. In this case the timing lines up almost too neatly — a Christmas show, in December, given as a Christmas gift.
Getting there from Dubai
Etihad Arena sits on Yas Island, which puts it within comfortable driving distance of Dubai for anyone making the trip down for the evening. Yas Island is well set up for event traffic, with substantial parking and hotel capacity immediately around the arena.
For Dubai residents, the practical question is whether to drive back the same night or stay over. A December Saturday with a late arena finish makes the overnight option worth pricing — particularly given how busy the roads in and out of Yas tend to be when the arena is at capacity.
A strong month for live music in the capital
The booking also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s position in the regional live-entertainment calendar. Etihad Arena has steadily built a programme of international headliners, and December consistently delivers the densest run of shows in the year across both emirates.
For audiences, that concentration is a mixed blessing — a crowded month means competing dates and competing budgets. But a Mariah Carey Christmas show is the sort of billing that tends to win those contests, not least because it is seasonal by definition and cannot simply be caught on another tour leg later in the year.
Whether the night opens with that unmistakable “It’s tiiiime” remains to be seen. The audience will be waiting for it.
