Air Arabia launched direct flights from Sharjah to Vienna on December 20, 2024, marking the low-cost carrier's latest expansion into Europe as it competes for a larger share of the Gulf-to-Europe travel market.
Dual Inaugural Ceremonies Mark the Launch
The first flight was celebrated with simultaneous ground-breaking ceremonies at both Sharjah International Airport and Vienna International Airport, reinforcing Air Arabia's strategic focus on the UAE–Austria corridor. Austrian Ambassador to the UAE, Dr. Etienne Berchtold, joined Air Arabia officials for the occasion, while Sharjah Airport Authority Chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa represented the UAE side at the Sharjah event. Employees of Vienna International Airport greeted arriving passengers at the European end.
CEO Adel Al Ali on the Vienna Route
Air Arabia Group CEO Adel Al Ali welcomed the new service with a clear statement of the airline's intentions: "The new route to Vienna reflects our continuous efforts at Air Arabia to grow our network and provide more options to customers to travel to interesting destinations. This development marks our delight in expanding our European market, and the inclusion of Vienna in the list of cities we serve shows our mission to offer cheap, accessible, and enjoyable travel for all of our customers."

Strengthening Tourism and Business Between UAE and Austria
The route is designed to deepen tourism and commercial ties between the UAE and Austria, giving Gulf-based travellers direct, affordable access to Vienna — one of Europe's most visited capitals.
