Etihad Rail has announced travel times for its long-awaited passenger train service, confirming that commuters will be able to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in just 57 minutes — bypassing highway traffic entirely. The railway posted the figures on its official X account, offering the clearest picture yet of what daily inter-emirate rail travel will look like.
Abu Dhabi to Dubai in 57 Minutes
The headline figure is the Abu Dhabi–Dubai corridor: 57 minutes at a top speed of 200 km/h. That is a significant time saving compared to a road journey that regularly stretches well beyond an hour during peak traffic.
Etihad Rail has also revealed journey times for two additional routes. The trip from Abu Dhabi to Al Ruwais — roughly 240 kilometres within the emirate — will take approximately 70 minutes. Travellers heading east to Fujairah can expect a journey of 105 minutes.
UAE Passenger Train Capacity and Classes
Once fully operational, each Etihad Rail passenger train will accommodate more than 400 passengers and reach a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The service will offer three cabin classes — first class, business class, and economy — catering to both daily commuters and leisure travellers.
Etihad Rail projects annual ridership of 36.5 million passengers across the UAE network, underlining the scale of demand the service is designed to meet.
Where the Passenger Service Stands Now
Etihad Rail has been operating freight services for several years, and formal passenger operations began in January 2024. However, full implementation of the passenger network is still ongoing. The railway has indicated that complete passenger service will be rolled out progressively, connecting 11 cities and regions across the UAE — from the Saudi border at Ghuweifat to Fujairah on the east coast.
The service represents a major shift for inter-emirate travel, giving residents a faster, more environmentally sustainable alternative to road transport for journeys between Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and beyond.
