The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is gearing up to celebrate the Dubai Metro 15th anniversary under the official slogan "15 Years on Track." Since the network opened on 9 September 2009, it has carried more than 2.4 billion riders — and the authority is marking the milestone with a packed calendar of promotions, entertainment, and collector's items for residents and visitors alike.
Several organisations are backing the celebrations: Strategic Partner Keolis-MHI (operator of Dubai Metro and Tram), and Campaign Partners LEGO Middle East, LEGOLAND Dubai, IGLOO, Al Jaber Gallery, and Emirates Post.
Limited-Edition Collectibles and the LEGO nol Card
Emirates Post will release a limited-edition set of commemorative stamps for collectors to mark the occasion. Alongside that, the RTA will launch a Special Edition nol Card featuring the anniversary campaign logo and a bespoke design created in collaboration with LEGO Middle East. Exclusive Dubai Metro souvenirs will also be available at Al Jaber Gallery throughout the campaign period.
Metro Babies Event at LEGOLAND Dubai
One of the most celebrated highlights is the "Metro Babies" event scheduled for 21 September 2024 at LEGOLAND Dubai. The RTA is inviting children born between 9 September 2009 and 9 September 2023 — those who share a birthday with the metro itself — to a special gathering. Parents can register their children through the official RTA website at www.rta.ae.
IGLOO Ice Cream Giveaway
To sweeten the milestone, IGLOO will launch special Dubai Metro-shaped ice creams. Hidden inside 5,000 of these limited-edition treats are winning codes on the sticks, each redeemable for free nol Terhaal credits — giving everyday commuters a chance to win as they celebrate.
Dubai Metro Music Festival
The anniversary also brings back the Dubai Metro Music Festival for its fourth edition, running from 21 to 27 September 2024. North-facing metro stations across the network will host live performances by Emirati and international artists. The festival is organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Dubai Government Media Office, and is expected to draw large crowds of residents and tourists.
15 Years of Growth
When the metro launched in 2009 it carried around 20,000 riders on its first full day of operation across just 10 stations and 52 kilometres of track. By September 2024 the network spans 90 kilometres, serves 53 stations, operates 129 trains, and regularly carries more than 700,000 passengers a day — with a punctuality rate of 99.7 per cent.
The RTA, on behalf of all partners and participants, invites everyone to join the commemorations and celebrate this landmark achievement in Dubai's transport history.
