Abu Dhabi's most anticipated retail destination has arrived. Reem Mall Abu Dhabi, a $1.3 billion development on Reem Island, officially opened its doors to the public on May 29, 2024, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. The opening marks a major milestone for the emirate's tourism and retail ambitions.
Abu Dhabi's $1.3 Billion Reem Mall: Scale and Investment
Spanning 186,000 square metres of gross leasable area, Reem Mall is one of the largest shopping complexes in the UAE capital. The development was built by Al Farwaniya Property Developments — a partnership of Agility Global, UPAC, and NREC — and took nearly a decade from groundbreaking to grand opening, with Covid-19 contributing to construction delays.
The mall accommodates more than 400 retail stores and 80 food and beverage outlets, supported by 6,400 parking spaces across two basement levels and four above-ground floors. Authorities project annual footfall of 16 to 18 million visitors, cementing Reem Mall's role as a flagship destination on Reem Island.
Snow Abu Dhabi: The Region's Largest Indoor Snow Park
Among Reem Mall's headline attractions is Snow Abu Dhabi, the largest indoor snow park in the region. Spanning 9,732 square metres, it operates year-round and offers 20 snow-themed rides and activities — including sledding, zorbing, carousels, and zip-lining. Snow Abu Dhabi was formally inaugurated in June 2023 and is now fully integrated into the mall's entertainment offering.
World-First Retail Concepts and Anchor Stores
Reem Mall Abu Dhabi is home to the world's first Bloomingdale's Beauty, a standalone beauty concept unique to the UAE capital. Other headline retailers include Zara, Nike, Adidas, Sephora, Carrefour, and Eataly — the Italian food market chain opening its first Abu Dhabi location inside the mall.
Entertainment is anchored by VOX Cinemas, which offers exclusive private cinema rooms. Additional amenities include a cloud co-working space for startups and small businesses, and a phygital retail concept blending digital and physical shopping experiences set to launch later in 2024.
Supporting UAE National Tourism Strategy 2031
The opening of Reem Mall Abu Dhabi directly supports the UAE's National Tourism Strategy 2031, which aims to position the country among the world's most sought-after travel destinations. The $1.3 billion investment adds a significant new pillar to Abu Dhabi's tourism infrastructure, complementing the emirate's broader drive to diversify its economy through leisure and retail development.
The presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan at the inauguration underscores the government's commitment to advancing tourism and family entertainment in the capital.
