The recognition is based on analysis of more than eight million traveller data points, underscoring the mosque's broad international appeal.

TripAdvisor 2024 Rankings

TripAdvisor's 2024 Travellers' Choice report placed Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque 10th globally and first in the Middle East in the Top Attractions category. In the Cultural and Historical Experiences subcategory, the mosque achieved third place worldwide — a marked improvement over its 2023 position.

Additional placements include 5th in the attractions subcategory, 15th in experiences overall, and 11th in the cultural/historical experiences subcategory.

Leadership Vision Behind the Achievement

Dr Yousif Alobaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC), credited the result to both leadership vision and sustained institutional effort.

"It is our leadership's vision that is embodied by the Mosque in this global achievement. This accomplishment is the result of the Centre's five-year strategic plan to envision and develop new services and experiences to offer the visitors," Dr Alobaidli said.

Cultural Tours and Visitor Programmes

The Centre has trained more than 250 UAE nationals in cultural tour guidance. These guides deliver over 5,000 cultural tours per year inside the mosque's precincts.

The mosque receives over 7 million worshippers and visitors annually, with approximately 80% coming from outside the UAE — making it one of the region's most internationally diverse religious and cultural sites.

Expanded Facilities and Unique Experiences

SZGMC continues to scale its visitor infrastructure. Key offerings include:

- Visitor Centre — exhibition halls, auditorium, and library - Souq Al Jami — shops, restaurants, and live entertainment programmes - Hidden Glimpses Tours — immersive electric vehicle-based cultural tours of the mosque grounds - Sura Night Tours — extended visits running from 10pm to 9am, designed for both resident tourists and transit passengers - A jogging track integrated into the broader site for community wellness

Together, these facilities position the mosque not only as a place of worship but as a full-scale cultural and leisure destination.

A Meeting Place of Cultures

The mosque's sustained rise in global rankings reflects a deliberate strategy to make it accessible and meaningful to visitors of every background. With 80% of its annual footfall coming from international travellers, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque functions — as Dr Alobaidli described — as "a meeting place of different cultures and religions."

The 2024 TripAdvisor recognition reinforces Abu Dhabi's standing as a world-class cultural tourism destination.
