Spain-born restaurant concept Akiro Dubai is set to expand into the UAE, introducing a Nikkei hand roll bar experience to Dubai's fast-growing Japanese dining scene. The restaurant is expected to open in late 2026 at Dar Wasl Mall, brought to the UAE by Belhasa Hospitality, though an official opening date has not yet been confirmed.
Interactive Hand Roll Bar Coming to Dubai
At the core of Akiro Dubai is its signature hand roll bar format, where diners sit directly facing the chefs. Each hand roll is prepared in real time and served immediately, ensuring optimal freshness — warm rice, crisp seaweed, and premium ingredients in every bite.
The concept focuses on counter-style dining that creates a direct connection between chefs and guests. This interactive approach has already made Akiro popular in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, and Chicago.
Nikkei Cuisine: Japanese Precision Meets Peruvian Flavour
The menu at Akiro Dubai will feature Nikkei cuisine — a fusion of Japanese precision and Peruvian flavour influences. Guests can expect dishes such as tuna tiradito, sashimi, nigiri, katsu sando, and a variety of signature hand rolls.
Set menus are expected to include premium selections like ebi furai, toro, scallop, short rib, and duck confit, highlighting the brand's focus on bold flavours and high-quality ingredients.
A curated drinks programme will accompany the food menu, featuring cocktails and wine selections designed to complement the Nikkei dining experience.
Design and Atmosphere
The restaurant's design is expected to reflect Akiro's established aesthetic: minimalist interiors, curved wood finishes, clean white tones, and a strong focus on the open counter layout.
Warm lighting and simple design elements are intended to keep attention on the chefs' preparation process, reinforcing the brand's interactive dining philosophy.
Dubai's Rising Demand for Hand Roll Dining
The arrival of Akiro Dubai reflects the rising popularity of hand roll bars and Japanese-inspired dining across the city. Dubai's restaurant scene has seen increasing demand for immersive, chef-led formats that combine entertainment with high-quality cuisine.
Founded by Luis Arevalo alongside Faisal Barakat and Lucas Leon, Akiro first launched in Madrid in 2023 and has since expanded internationally on the back of strong demand for its unique Nikkei concept.
