Dubai Mall's expansion is set to reshape the global retail landscape once again. Emaar Properties has announced a new development phase worth AED 1.5 billion ($408 million), adding 240 luxury shops and food and beverage outlets to the already record-breaking complex.
Emaar's AED 1.5 Billion Expansion Plan
The Dubai Mall — currently ranked the world's number one tourist attraction by visitor arrivals — will gain a significant new wing under the expansion. Emaar Properties confirmed that the contractor has already begun on-site mobilization, signalling the project is firmly underway.
The new phase will introduce 240 luxury retail and dining units, further cementing the mall's status as a must-visit destination for international shoppers and tourists alike.
Mohamed Alabbar Speaks on the Vision
Announcing the expansion, Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar Properties, said: "The new expansion plan launched in the Dubai Mall is a great addition to one of the most visited sites in the world. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our valued guests and the customers, our partners, retailers as well as the government authorities for their kind support. We aim to make the new expansion in Dubai as one of the examples of Dubai's vision to remain in the innovative and the cultural field as the most visited city in the world."
Record Visitor Numbers Drive the Investment
Dubai Mall topped the global tourist attraction rankings in 2023 with a record 105 million visitors — a 19 percent year-on-year increase — alongside strong retail sales performance. That momentum has continued into 2024, with the mall maintaining its position as a worldwide destination for retail, recreation, and hospitality.
Reinforcing Dubai's Global Standing
The AED 1.5 billion expansion underlines Dubai's ambition to continuously develop into a distinguished international centre for shopping, entertainment, and culture. The project is expected to boost the city's appeal for both international tourists and UAE residents, and supports the broader government strategy to keep Dubai at the forefront of global destination cities.
