Dubai is positioning itself at the forefront of the global Web3 sports revolution. Atleta Network, the world's first blockchain platform built exclusively for the sports industry, has officially launched with its international headquarters in the UAE — and it has the backing of some of football's biggest names.
What Is Atleta Network?
Atleta Network is a Layer-1 blockchain designed specifically for the sports world. Built on the Substrate framework, the platform allows sports organisations to deploy smart contracts, issue tokens, and increase the transparency of financial transactions. Fans can directly fund players' careers, purchase digital collectibles tied to blockchain-supported sports academies, and earn rewards tied to their favourite players' achievements.
The platform also has a strong social mission: enabling fans and investors to support sports academies that develop young, underserved talent through subsidised token-subscription funding. Players who are scouted and developed through the academies can be represented as NFTs, allowing supporters to share in their future success.
Dmitry Saksonov, founder of Atleta Network, described the platform's dual purpose: "Sports organisations can deploy smart contracts, issue tokens, and optimise their financial activity with high levels of transparency. Users can contribute to their favourite players' success via smart contracts, purchase blockchain sports academies' digital collectibles, and get rewards for their players' professional achievements."
Football Legends Back the Blockchain Sports Crusade
The launch event at Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena drew more than 5,000 attendees and cemented the city's role as the hub for the project. Football icons Kevin Kuranyi, Romario, David Trezeguet, Wesley Sneijder, and Marco Materazzi have signed on as ambassadors and curators, lending global credibility to the initiative.
Several of the world's most prominent football clubs and leagues — including FC Barcelona, Liverpool FC, La Liga, and the NBA — have expressed plans to leverage the technology for NFTs, ticket management, and fan engagement.
Football Academies and Real-World Impact
Atleta Network has already invested approximately $8 million to establish three football academies in Brazil, located in Rio de Janeiro, Sobral, and Acopiara. More than 200 young players attend these academies, many scouted from underserved communities.
The project's "Tempo do Futebol" scouting competition drew over 60,000 competitors across Brazil, demonstrating the platform's reach and its potential to transform young lives through sport and technology. The goal is to launch 20 blockchain-powered football academies worldwide by the end of 2024.
Technology Roadmap and the $ATLA Token
Core features of the Atleta Network are expected to go live on the mainnet by Q3 2024, supported by an AI and machine learning layer for performance optimisation. The utility token, $ATLA, powers all activity within the ecosystem — users can spend it on platform services or trade it on Atleta's built-in decentralised exchange (DEX) for other popular cryptocurrencies.
The network is also designed to be interoperable, allowing token transfers between Atleta and other EVM-compatible blockchains. The $ATLA token generation event (TGE) is scheduled for September 2024.
With a major international sports blockchain platform headquartered in the emirate, Dubai is primed to lead the global Web3 transformation of the sports industry — opening new frontiers for innovation, fan engagement, and athlete development.
