The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai has launched the "Frij Refrigerator" initiative to address the harsh reality of construction workers labouring under scorching summer sun. Coordinated by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the program supplies cold drinks and refreshments to more than 8,000 workers at construction sites and factory locations across Dubai.
What Is the GDRFA Dubai Frij Refrigerator Initiative?
Sensing the challenges workers face during the extreme summer months, GDRFA Dubai designed the Frij Refrigerator to directly improve working conditions at the ground level. The initiative underscores the organisation's commitment to investing in the well-being and productivity of the labour force that drives Dubai's development.
The program reflects GDRFA's effectiveness in improving workers' work and living conditions to enhance productivity and support sustainable development. By addressing the need for a suitable work environment, the initiative reinforces the invaluable role workmen play in society and in building Dubai's future.
Officials Highlight Humanitarian Values
The Director-General of GDRFA Dubai praised the program, stating the project embodies "the spirit of the UAE people universally — encompassing humanitarianism and togetherness." The initiative, he noted, demonstrates the nation's commitment to improving the quality of life and welfare of workers.
Major General Obaid Bin Suroor, Assistant Director-General of GDRFA Dubai and Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Labor Affairs, emphasised that efforts are ongoing to sustain effective communication with the labour force — which he called "key to the progress of the emirate." He said the Frij Refrigerator is in line with GDRFA's continuous endeavour to provide care and support to workers who serve the cause of Dubai's progress.
Labour Sector Investment and Dubai's Vision
Major General Dr. Ali Bin Ajif Al Zaabi, Assistant Director-General of GDRFA Dubai, stressed that significant emphasis must be placed on the labour sector to elevate the standards of work and productivity. He noted that such measures align with the emirate's vision of achieving higher levels of competitiveness and development across various sectors, as well as broader national development objectives.
A Supportive, Diversity-Friendly Workplace
Through initiatives like the Frij Refrigerator, GDRFA Dubai demonstrates its commitment to creating a supportive and diversity-friendly workplace in the city. The program stands as a clear example of how government bodies in the UAE translate humanitarian values into direct, tangible action for the workers who make Dubai's rise possible.
