Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, led a high-level delegation to the Italian Ministry of Interior in Rome, where he was welcomed by Italy's top security officials for talks aimed at deepening UAE–Italy cooperation in combating organized crime.
High-Level Meeting in Rome
Italian Police Chief Prefect Vittorio Pisani — General Director of Public Security and head of the Italian police force — hosted the Dubai delegation alongside Prefect Raffaele Grassi, Deputy Chief of Police and Central Director of Criminal Police, and Prefect Annunziato Vardè, Director of the Planning and Coordination Office of Police Forces. Also present from the Dubai side was Colonel Tariq Sultan Al Suwaidi, Director of the Wanted Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation.
Focus: Organized Crime, Drugs, and Crypto Laundering
The agenda centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation across policing and security. Both sides discussed strategies to combat organized and transnational crime, drug trafficking, and the growing use of cryptocurrencies for money laundering — areas where coordination between UAE and European law enforcement has become increasingly critical.
Dubai Police's Operational Achievements Praised
Prefect Pisani highlighted specific operational successes by Dubai Police in supporting Italian justice. He praised the force for identifying and arresting 13 international fugitives wanted by the Italian Judicial Investigation Authority, and commended its instrumental role in securing a judicial order to forfeit €50 million in funds obtained through criminal activities.
These results underscore Dubai Police's standing as a key international partner in cross-border crime suppression.
UAE's Commitment to Global Security Partnerships
Lieutenant General Al Marri emphasized the UAE's commitment to strengthening global security partnerships under the directives of HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Interior. He reiterated the importance of collaboration with Italian authorities to confront organized crime and reinforce ties between the two countries' security institutions.
The meeting reflected both nations' shared resolve to advance international law enforcement cooperation and build on an already productive operational relationship.
