Dubai Police has honoured 22 officers under its Safe Driving Stars initiative after they completed three consecutive years with no traffic violations and no road accidents — a milestone that has helped cut crashes involving police vehicles by 40 per cent and save Dh24 million in government costs.

What Is the Safe Driving Stars Initiative?

The Safe Driving Stars programme identifies and rewards Dubai Police drivers who maintain spotless safety records over a sustained period. The latest cohort of 22 honourees recorded zero traffic offences or accidents across three full years, setting a benchmark for responsible driving within the force.

Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Excellence and Pioneering Affairs, said the initiative aims to "promote a culture of traffic safety and responsible driving" across all ranks. The programme is set to expand, eventually recognising more than 100 people across three categories, including civilian drivers.

40% Fewer Crashes, Dh24 Million Saved

Colonel Samira Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Insurance Department at the General Administration of Transport and Rescue, said the programme has delivered measurable results: traffic accidents involving police force vehicles dropped by 40 per cent since the initiative's launch.

The financial impact has been equally significant. By reducing vehicle damage and associated costs, the initiative has cut government expenditure by Dh24 million. Emergency response times have also improved, with the average time to reach an incident now standing at 2.5 minutes.

Why Road Safety Matters Inside the Force

Police vehicles are on the road around the clock, and every crash affects not just costs but public trust and response capacity. The Safe Driving Stars initiative directly addresses that risk by making safe driving a recognised, rewarded behaviour rather than merely an expectation.

The programme ties individual performance to broader institutional goals — fewer crashes mean faster response times, lower insurance and repair bills, and a stronger safety culture that officers carry with them off duty as well.

Dubai's Wider Road Safety Agenda

The recognition ceremony reinforces Dubai's broader commitment to Vision Zero — the long-term goal of eliminating fatal and serious road injuries. Safe Driving Stars sits alongside other Dubai Police road safety campaigns targeting speeding, distracted driving, and heavy-vehicle safety on major highways.

For drivers across Dubai, the message is consistent: safe behaviour behind the wheel is valued, tracked, and rewarded — whether you are a police officer or a civilian on the road.
