HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chancellor of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and Chairman of the Dubai Health Board of Directors, presided over the MBRU graduation ceremony 2024 at Dubai World Trade Centre on June 25. The convocation honoured the Class of 2024 — 153 graduates spanning 24 programmes across four colleges and representing 27 different nationalities.
MBRU Class of 2024: A Diverse and Historic Cohort
The graduating class drew students from the Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, the College of Medicine, the Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, and the Deanship of Graduate Medical Education. Nearly 40% of the class were young Emiratis, underscoring MBRU's central role in developing national medical talent and advancing the university's mission of Advancing Health for Humanity.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed highlighted the urgency of producing creative, forward-thinking medical professionals who can enhance the quality of healthcare in Dubai. He said the university's mission directly supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a global capital for education and healthcare.
Key Voices at the Convocation
MBRU Council Chairperson and Dubai Health Board member Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg attributed the graduates' achievements to the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. She stressed MBRU's role in building a globally connected university that advances healthcare education and research — noting the institution had reached this milestone eight years after its founding.
His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, urged the new graduates to approach their medical careers with courage, emphasising that the decisions individuals make carry significant consequences. MBRU President and Dubai Health CEO Dr. Amer Sharif declared the graduates fully prepared to take on leadership roles in Dubai, the wider region, and beyond, reaffirming the institution's commitment to patient-centred care.
Commencement Address: 'We Are the Future'
Commencement speaker Dr. Meznah Ali Rasheed closed the ceremony on a note of collective resolve. Reflecting on the graduating class's dedication to the welfare of others and readiness as healthcare providers, she declared: "We are ready. We are prepared. We are the future."
MBRU's leadership confirmed the university will continue pursuing its academic and research mission, expanding the healthcare knowledge base and improving outcomes for patients in the UAE and internationally.
