UAE residents planning a trip to Thailand can now apply for a Thai e-visa entirely online, without visiting the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Dubai. Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the new system on January 1, 2025, replacing the previous in-person procedure and making it easier for Gulf-based travellers to visit the country.
What Is the Thailand E-Visa for UAE Residents?
The Thailand e-visa for UAE residents is an online visa application system accessible at www.thaievisa.go.th. It allows eligible foreign nationals residing in the UAE to submit their visa applications — and pay the fees — directly through the official portal, with no authorised third-party agencies involved.
The visa costs AED 400 (approximately USD 109) and is valid for 60 days, giving travellers flexibility to plan longer stays. Processing takes between 5 and 20 working days, so applicants are advised to apply at least one month before their intended travel date.
Requirements for UAE Residents Applying for a Thai E-Visa
To complete the application at thaievisa.go.th, UAE residents must upload the following documents:
- Original passport with a minimum of six months' validity from the date of entry - Recent passport-sized photograph meeting the portal's specified guidelines - Valid UAE residency permit — Residence Visa or Emirates ID - Return flight confirmation issued directly by an airline (agency or email bookings are not accepted) - Proof of accommodation in Thailand — a hotel reservation, an invitation letter from a Thai host, or a stamped letter from the Thai Embassy or Consulate
All fees must be paid exclusively through the official portal. The Thai Consulate-General has confirmed it has not authorised any travel agents or agencies to process applications on applicants' behalf.
Why Thailand Launched the E-Visa System
The e-visa initiative is part of Thailand's broader strategy to position itself as a tourist-friendly destination for Gulf visitors. By removing the requirement for in-person embassy appointments, the system reduces barriers for UAE residents and reflects Thailand's ongoing efforts to grow inbound tourism from the region.
Applicants must be physically located in the UAE when submitting their application — submissions made from Thailand or any other country will be rejected.
How to Apply: Step-by-Step
1. Visit www.thaievisa.go.th and create an account. 2. Select the appropriate visa type for your trip. 3. Upload all required documents (passport, photo, Emirates ID, flight and hotel bookings). 4. Pay the AED 400 fee through the portal's payment gateway. 5. Wait 5–20 working days for processing — check status via the portal.
Applying at least one month before departure is strongly recommended to avoid delays.
