People who are given amnesty in the UAE and those who over stayed their visit visa are advised to wait until they are issued with an exit pass before purchasing tickets The advises came after the GDRFA asked the affected persons not to purchase their tickets before been issued with an exit pass. It takes up to 48 hours to get an exit pass because of biometric data capture that is compulsory for visa holders.

Major General Salah Al Qamzi of the GDRFA mentioned that priority should be attained for the exit pass since many people arrived at the Al Awir Centre with prior booked ticket merely to be informed that they had to change their flights. When the exit pass has been given, it is valid for 14 days to enable the amnesty seekers to complete their process of exiting or finding jobs.

For those travelers with expired residency visas the process is often faster because their biometric data are already stored there. The amnesty program begun on September 1st seeks to help those who would have racked up huge fines owing to their status as overstayers. The penalty for overstay in UAE is AED 50 ($13. 60) for visitors and residents both, as is clearly stated by UAE law.

Second day of the amnesty attracted a huge turnout of organizations with recruitment stand at Al Awir Centre were giving out jobs to amnesty applicants. The GDRFA explained that those who have a job in Dubai can address their visa-related concerns in the emirate even if got their visa in another emirate.

During the ongoing amnesty program, officials advise the applicants to apply in the emirate of which their visa was issued, though they can apply in Dubai if they secured employment there is some exceptions notwithstanding. The programme gives a good hope and chance to the people to pay off the fines and either leave the country or restart a clean and legal life.
