Adnoc has signed an agreement with OpenAI and G42 that will make it the first energy company in the world to deploy OpenAI’s frontier technology, as the Abu Dhabi energy group moves to widen the use of artificial intelligence across its operations.

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, witnessed the signing on Monday. The agreement was concluded with G42 through its subsidiary Inception42.

The signing followed a meeting between the Crown Prince and OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman.

The deal positions Adnoc ahead of its international peers in adopting the most advanced tier of OpenAI’s models, and extends an existing relationship between the UAE and the AI developer. G42, the Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence and cloud group, acts as the local partner for the deployment.

Adnoc has been building out its AI capability for several years as part of a wider push to apply the technology across exploration, production and operational decision-making.
