HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, congratulated David Lammy on his appointment as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom — marking one of the first diplomatic outreach calls Lammy received after taking office.
Sheikh Abdullah Highlights Historic UAE-UK Ties
In his congratulatory message, Sheikh Abdullah expressed hope that Lammy would succeed in his new role. He underscored the depth of the friendly relations between the UAE and the UK, which are grounded in historical roots spanning decades of trade, security, and diplomatic cooperation.
Sheikh Abdullah emphasised that further strengthening of these bilateral relations should remain a mutual priority and that ongoing cooperation between the two nations must be maintained and expanded.
Commitment to Advancing the Partnership
The UAE Foreign Minister expressed his desire to work directly with Secretary Lammy to improve and advance the partnership between the two countries. He highlighted the tangible gains both nations — and their peoples — stand to benefit from through deeper bilateral engagement.
The outreach reflects the strong institutional bond between Abu Dhabi and London. The UAE is the UK's largest trading partner in the Gulf region and one of its top 20 global trading partners, making the relationship a cornerstone of both nations' foreign policy priorities.
