To handle the unique demands of a double-decker jet at full capacity, Emirates went with an industry-first three-antenna configuration per A380. Each Boeing 777 gets two Starlink antennas. Each A380 gets three, plus additional wireless access points throughout both decks. For context, Emirates previously used OnAir connectivity on its A380 fleet — a system largely limited to basic texting and light browsing. The shift to Starlink is not a minor tweak. It is a complete overhaul of what the onboard internet experience is capable of.
Where the Emirates Starlink Rollout Stands
Emirates announced its Starlink partnership with SpaceX in November 2025, with the first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 entering commercial service on November 23, 2025. Since then, 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft have been fitted with the technology, and more than 650,000 passengers have already experienced the service in the air.
Now that the A380 is part of the programme, more aircraft are scheduled for accelerated installation throughout 2026. Emirates is fitting out roughly 14 aircraft per month, with the full rollout across all 232 aircraft in its fleet targeted for mid-2027. Installations will also begin at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai to keep the deployment on pace.

The Starlink programme sits within Emirates' wider $5 billion retrofit initiative.
