GITEX GLOBAL 2024 officially opened at Dubai World Trade Centre on 14 October, with His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Airline & Group, inaugurating the 44th edition of the world's largest technology exhibition. More than 6,500 exhibitors, 1,800 startups, 1,200 investors, and visitors from over 180 countries gathered in Dubai — confirming the emirate's standing as one of the world's foremost technology centres.
Sheikh Ahmed Highlights UAE's Digital Commitment
Opening the conference, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed underlined the importance of cross-border cooperation in developing technology ecosystems. He stated that "GITEX GLOBAL is about ideas and digitalisation of industries, which proves that UAE is focused on its mission to drive forward the global digital economy."
His remarks positioned GITEX GLOBAL 2024 as more than a trade show — a demonstration of the UAE's long-term ambition to lead the global digital economy through openness and international collaboration.
Theme: Forging a Future AI Economy
The central theme of GITEX GLOBAL 2024 — "Global Collaboration to Forge a Future AI Economy" — reflects the event's focus on AI-assisted socio-economic transformation. The World Future Economy Digital Leaders Summit, held alongside the main exhibition, discussed how AI could contribute approximately $13 trillion to the global economy by 2030.
The AI Everything segment was among the most anticipated features of this year's event. Dedicated to exploring the advances and future potential of AI across industries, it brought together 3,500 enterprises — including Google, AWS, IBM, Microsoft, Nvidia, Huawei, and Adobe — to showcase real-world deployments and emerging technologies.
Record International Participation
Global participation at GITEX GLOBAL 2024 rose by nearly 40% compared to the previous year, making this the biggest and most internationally diverse edition in the event's 44-year history. The scale confirms Dubai's role as the go-to destination for technology leaders, investors, and innovators from every region.
New Initiatives Unveiled at GITEX 2024
GITEX GLOBAL 2024 introduced several new formats designed to expand the event's reach and impact:
- GITEX Editions — a next-generation tech ecosystem connecting disruptive organisations, featuring 59 unicorns with a combined valuation of $400 billion. - Data Centre Symposium — launched on 17 October, focusing on AI-led automation and the evolution of data centre infrastructure. - Expand North Star — a dedicated startup and investment platform running through 16 October at Dubai Harbour, alongside the main GITEX footprint. - StartUp Zones — dedicated areas spotlighting emerging companies from across the globe.
Together these additions reinforced GITEX's evolution from a regional trade exhibition into a truly global platform for digital transformation and technology-driven economic growth.
