If your travel plans in the UAE have been disrupted by recent flight schedule changes, authorities have activated a comprehensive passenger assistance plan — covering free hotels, meals, and rebooking support — to ensure travellers are not left bearing unexpected costs.
The initiative is coordinated by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which confirmed the UAE is bearing all hosting and accommodation costs for affected and stranded passengers. Approximately 20,200 passengers have already received assistance since the disruptions began.
What the UAE Passenger Assistance Plan Covers
Passengers affected by flight delays or rescheduling can expect the following support:
- Free temporary hotel accommodation near major airports - Meals, refreshments, and essential services - Assistance with flight rebooking procedures - Coordinated support for transit passengers - Extended hotel stays covered where required
The GCAA affirmed: "The UAE's aviation sector continues to manage passenger traffic in an organised and flexible manner to mitigate the impact of successive amendments to flight schedules."
Beyond government aid, private organisations also stepped up. Arabnb Homes opened apartments at no charge, while Danube Properties prioritised families with children and elderly travellers for complimentary housing.
Which Airports Are Providing Support
UAE flight disruption support is active across the country's three major international hubs:
- Dubai International Airport (DXB) - Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi (AUH) - Sharjah International Airport
National carriers — Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia — are working closely with airport authorities to assist passengers with rebooking and on-ground logistics.
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism also issued a circular to hotels directing them to cover extended stays for guests unable to depart due to circumstances beyond their control.
What You Should Do If Your Flight Is Affected
If your flight has been rescheduled or cancelled:
1. Contact your airline directly for updated rebooking options and the next available flight. 2. Monitor official airline apps and airport websites for real-time schedule updates. 3. Keep all receipts for any out-of-pocket expenses — reimbursement policies may apply. 4. Ask at the airport assistance desk about hotel and meal vouchers if you have not already been offered them.
Peace of Mind for Travellers
By covering accommodation, meals, and logistical support, the UAE government is ensuring travellers are protected during a period of significant regional disruption. The coordinated response underlines the country's commitment to passenger welfare and organised travel management.
If you are currently in the UAE and affected by flight schedule changes, assistance is available and your essential expenses are being covered by the state.
